Just a 13-minute drive from Hotel Gloria lies one of the temples of world motorcycling: the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, in Misano Adriatico. Here, between the hills and the sea, the champions of MotoGP and Superbike meet every year, together with thousands of fans from all over Europe.
This is the heart of the Land of Motors: just a few kilometres from Gabicce is Tavullia, Valentino Rossi’s home town, and a little further on Coriano, home of the late Marco “Sic” Simoncelli. Here engines are not just a sport, they are a passion you can feel in the squares, in the cafés, in the yellow flags hanging from the balconies.
And after a day at the track, coming back to the Gloria means finding the sea, a cool shower and a home-cooked dinner. The best way to enjoy a race weekend.
From Gabicce Mare the circuit is just a 13-minute drive, following the coast towards Cattolica and Misano Adriatico. On race days traffic increases considerably: it is best to leave early and follow the signs for the circuit car parks.
Just ask us: we will be happy to give you a few tips to make the most of your day at the track.
Opened in 1972, since 2012 the circuit has borne the name of Marco Simoncelli, the rider from Coriano who died in 2011 and remains in the heart of all Romagna. The track is 4,226 metres long with 16 corners, mixing hard braking zones and fast sweeping bends; the stands hold up to 60,000 spectators.
Surrounded by the hills of the hinterland and just a few kilometres from the sea, it is one of the circuits most loved by riders and fans alike.
Every year, usually in September, Misano hosts the MotoGP San Marino and Rimini Riviera Grand Prix. For three days the coast fills with flags, bikes and fans: the streets come alive, bars and restaurants celebrate and the atmosphere reaches all the way to the Gabicce seafront.
It is one of the most awaited weekends of the year: if you want to be there, book early, because rooms on the Riviera go fast.
The circuit’s calendar is busy for most of the year. In early summer it usually welcomes the Superbike World Championship, at home in Misano since 1991; then GT and formula car championships, gatherings, events and track days for those who want to try the circuit with their own bike or car.
Before you go, check the up-to-date calendar on the circuit’s official website: misanocircuit.com.
